I felt it was completely within my rights to complain but have been left even more dissapointed after doing so.

I was told that the Romford Toni and Guy is a franchise and as the salon manager didn't want to give me a refund there was nothing that the customer services manager could do.

I think it's shocking that Toni and Guy lend their name out to people who are incapable of even the simplist hairdressing tasks and have absolutely no interest in customer retention.

If anyone from Toni and Guy is reading this, I suggest you keep a closer eye on your franchisees to ensure that they are providing the level of service expected from Toni and Guy salons.

In response to:Credo

It is so refreshing to find a positive reference to Nietzsche. I will add that I have had my hair long for 45yrs, the condition has always been very good and people comment on what nice hair I have ( had ).
The Southend-On-Sea salon I visit has gone down-hill, constant change of staff, never more than 1-2 customers when I have been there, when it first opened you had to book a month ahead, well all the regular staff and managment went, that was the start of bad hairdressing.
The new manager offered me a hair cut and a treatment as a good will gesture.....I have long hair I dont want frigging short hair. He then got back up, a young girl all snooty, she fired up the situation by telling me my hair was old hair, see this is about as much as they know, hair is never that old, because it grows and we cut it, If I had never cut it, then it would be old hair and down by my frigging knees!!!!!! I left the salon with no apology from them, no refund and no redress to my problem.
So all I can say about the Southend-On-Sea salon is, Adios, you will never see me or my friends and relatives again, word and mouth, this blog, maybe someone somewhere, will take note, yes you, TONI & GUY, stop ripping us of with what was once a good salon and name.
Anyone any ideas how I can stop my hair falling out?????

In response to:Toni + Guy = Worst Hairdressing Experience Ever?

How many words do you need to string together to work for T&G, by the way it's, 'if we are so crapy' not if we were, because you are crap!!!

In response to:A Whole New Kind Of Stupid

Exactly, I never read such blogs again, and I'm not even a spouse.... more like a mouse or a sprout perhaps! ;)

In response to:A Whole New Kind Of Stupid

I rather think that publicly defaming a spouse tells us more about the defamer than the defamed.......it's not worth stooping to.

In response to:A Whole New Kind Of Stupid

I have noted on our local blogland, people slagging off their spouses and admitting to affairs without any thought that the spouse in question, or their friends, might log on and see the postings. The first time I went in I booked with a senior stylist, she completely ignored what I wanted, which was blonde, and made me brunette, after I complained she reluctantly put blonde streaks in. Although it was not what I asked for it was nice so a few months later I booked again. She had left the salon so I had another 'senior technician', she was awful and completely ruined my hair. Both times I had to pay over £100, just for hair dye, no cut, and despite not being given what I asked for either time.

The second woman clearly had no idea what she was doing, each time she washed the dye out it looked awful so she re-dyed it. After 4 attempts of her re-dying it and having to sit in the chair for 5 hours, the salon was closing. I was not happy with my hair, I had not been given what we agreed in the consultation but I was still charged full price for something I did not want, and had a horrible hair colour & hair in bad condition after the 4 re-dyes. I will NEVER go back to T & G again, I have no idea how they're a leading salon, they don't listen to their customers at all. What's the point in the consultation if they do whatever they feel anyway?

In response to:Toni + Guy = Worst Hairdressing Experience Ever?

I used to work at Toni & Guy as well, and I completely agree with you! specially on your incident of not having a ride to work. Terrible cut that looked terrible when he did it and continues to look disgusting five months later. He hacked and hacked at my thick wavey hair, it is an absolute travesty that you go in with thick hair and come out with spikes. I could literally cry when I look in the mirror.

Please avoid these horrible shops with their sub-standard, half baked stylists.

In response to:Toni + Guy = Worst Hairdressing Experience Ever?

Yeah that comment was a bit odd :O Anyway, my turn to vent.... I went to toni and guy in hastings for the first time as i wanted a colour and a fringe put in. The guy there seemed very stuck up with an attitude and said theres nothing we can do, you cant have a fringe put in as your hairs to thick and its my reputation on the line if it goes wrong!! I was very dissapointed and shocked by his attitude so i went to toni and guy eastbourne to get a second opinion. The girl there was very genuine and said 'what is he talking about? of course you can have a fringe'.(also apparently he is known for his bad attitude) She cut my hair and blow dryed it and it was absolutly amazing! I loved it. The service was excellent and she was the nicest hairdresser i have come across. Then the nightmare begins....

Still wanting a colour put in i went in for a consultation with the senior technician. I explained to her i wanted NOTICABLE blonde highlights put in my long dark brown hair. She didnt really seem as though she was listening to me but i gave her the benefit of the doubt and assumed it was just me. She said that could be done however we cant go to light as my hair is so dark. (not sure how beyonce managed it then) So i went in the next day and had the colour done and a conditioning treatment and the really nice hairdresser as previously mentioned blow dryed it again for free and my hair looked gorgeous. The best its ever been. I was so happy!

2 days later i washed it, blow dryed it, looked in the mirror and all the colour seemed to have gone! I couldnt believe it! £85 worth of colour just seemed to have dissapeared! My partner urged me to ring up and ask for it to be redone. I was hesitant as its always awkward isnt it? Plus i hate confrontations but the lady was very nice and booked me in with a different lady to have them redone a few days later.

I went in feeling a bit nervous (likely the lady who done it the first time wasnt there so i didnt have to face an awkward confrontation) and she said ' i thought you would come back as i didnt think she put enough in either' She also said 'she likes to make people blonde and the other lady likes to make people darker' i thought to myself shouldn't they be doing what the client wants?? Anyway, i showed her a picture and she said she cant put as many highlights in as that but she will try her best. I said 'ok put in a much as you can' hoping i would get at least half the ammount of highlights put in that was in the picture. Well, she made my completely blonde!!!!! I was devastated. I went home and everybody couldnt believe what had happened to my hair. I hated it. I didnt even leave the house for a couple of days it was that bad! Not only was i completely blonde but the condition of my hair was awful. I dont think she put a conditioner on it. In a desperate attempt to try and make my hair look 'normal' i washed it and blow dryed it and it made it so much worse. It was like cotton wall. Not only did it feel like hay but the colour looked greeny orange and it looked like hay on my head and she charged me an extra £10! Why should i have to pay extra money for a colour that should have been done right in the first place? I asked for streaks put in not and overall colour of straw like blonde. My friend even said 'you should have had it done professionly, you shouldnt have bought a home dye from boots!'

I rang up the head office, told her what happened and she said she will ring them for me. They rang back about 30 mins later and booked me in with yet another colour technician. By now i was getting so fed up keep going back there but what else can i do? Ok, so my third trip back to toni and guy. It was humiliating walking back in there knowing that they must all have had a good bitchy chat about me (especially as i rang the head office) Both of the previous colour technicians were working that day and avoiding eye contact with me when i walked in. I sat down with the third lady and she ran through my options. I said i was not sure whether i should just go back to my normal colour as this way they cant go wrong. She said 'well you have paid a lot of money for highlights and it would be a shame to go back to square one after paying £95.' She was right, i still wanted my highlights but its just not happening is it! I also said to her 'why is it when i ask for blonde streaks in my hair after i washed it the all blended in to one main colour. She explained that it because my hair was so long that is isnt possible for the streaks to remain visable after i wash it myself! Why didnt they mention this before? Surely they should cut, style and colour hair so that its also managable for clients when they leave the salon? Noone is going to come in toni and guy every morning to have there hair done before they go to work! Right, still a little fuzzy about what to do as i was at the end of my teather she called over an employee that had similar hair to me but with very few highlights put in. 'would you like it like this ladys hair?' I thought about it, rang my parnter and decided yes ok like hers but keep a few more highlights put in. So basically the main bulk of my hair was back to normal but with a few highlights left in so its still noticable. As she finnished putting the foils in i noticed she left a big chunk of hair with the orange green highlights in. I asked her if she could put in some more in those to sections and she assured me that even though it seems like there isnt alot of foils in your hair there will make a big difference and that she didnt want to as she thought i would complain that there wasnt enough highlights left in. I was getting a bit annoyed but after coming in the third time surely they would now what i wanted and thought well i cant look any worse than it does right now. After she washed it it was still wet gave me a mirror to see the lowlights she had put in asked me if i wanted a toner out on it. She added that if i put i toner on it it would be a lot darker and i may not notice the highlights enough so i decided not to. My hair looked dark enough at the time but then again hair always looks darker when its wet so i wasnt sure. Feeling very anxious i went to go and have my hair blow dryed. (Ignoring all the funny looks and whispers in the back ground by other employees) As it was being blow dryed all the blondey greeny orange hair started to appear and i just couldnt believe it. Dont get me wrong it looked better but it was AGAIN nothing like i had asked or like the employees hair that she showed me. After she finnished (they do always blow dry it and style it very well by the way) i went to the front desk and there was about 6 of the staff standing there waiting for my reaction. How embarrassin and awkward. Its funny how the world doesnt open up and swallow you when you want it to huh? I felt intimidated and just said thanks and walked out the shop.

I went home and examined it further. My partner and i both felt it still wasnt right, there was no where near enough lowlights in it and my hair was severly damaged. So he rang up the head office himself to complain. I even said to her i wanted more dark brown in and she refused to more in. The whole point of this third trip was to put dark brown streaks in to break it up but yet again iv washed it and the colour has gone really really weird. Its neither blonde or brunette. Its just weird. Its all blended in with no difine streaks of colour whats so ever.

The lady at head office said she will ring up and ask for a full refund and if they refuse i will have to go to a different branch and have an assessment. I dont want an assessment, i just want it put back to the way it was. So £95 and two weeks later my hair is damaged and being put back to dark brown. Great isnt it? So the nightmare isnt even over yet. Will have to wait a few more days to see what happens. :(

In response to:Toni + Guy = Worst Hairdressing Experience Ever?

Er, what? But can I just point out that if you go to the T&G website (at least as it was at the point when I wrote this post - I haven't checked lately), there was *NO* obvious indication of how or where or to whom we could complain. I understand very well that it's difficult for head office to control what happens on the ground in any service industry, but it's clear to me from the posts in this thread that there's room for improvement. It would be a start if there were some offer along the lines of 'if you're not completely happy with your haircut, the next one is free with our senior stylist', or something like that. Most women don't go in there with the aim of making a false complaint just so they can get a free haircut (a handful will, of course, no way around that), so it won't cost a lot extra, and would even make a useful marketing angle. It would certainly go a long way to mollify the large number of highly pissed-off ladies who have been posting here.

In response to:Toni + Guy = Worst Hairdressing Experience Ever?

I am absolutely appalled at the above negative comments written about Toni & Guy. This is written as without arrogance and as an outline to hopefully reasure.I am a franchisee of Toni & Guy and very, very proud to do so. A little about our company. Toni & Guy is the largest hairdressing company in the world, employing over 20,000 people, winning numerous global awards including Coolbrand & Superbrand, our founder Toni Mascolo receiving a OBE for his service to hairdressing. I understand as with any large company a minority of employess spoil it for the majority. Our staff are not only initially trained on the NVQ level 1 & 2 program ( incidenatally the goverment has awarded Toni & Guy the national NVQ contract, awarded for its high standards ), but also in addition trained in house for 2 years, before being "tested" and "passed off " on an intensive 6 weeks Vardering program -a 6 week course testing the ability of our staff BEFORE they are let on the salon floor. On return like all salons they are placed within the salon as a stylist - perhaps the best trained just qualified stylists available in any salon. From there on promotion to a higher level is only won by further education, and further scrutinisation, passed off by one of out International Art Team. In brief, my point being that I truly believe that on the whole we are of the highest standard and integrity. If, in the event of a complaint Toni & Guy Head Office, Doughty Street, London tel 0207 440 6660 WILL take ANY complaint SERIOUSLY. Yes, I have in 11 years, and over 150,000 clients had complaints! but they should be taken seriously at in salon level. If not, i would urge anyone to contact head office to wead out the few spoiling it for the rest of us. Let me tell you, head office, and Toni in particular do not take complaints lightly. Genuine complaints should be used positively, to strenghten weak area's and give the service and satisfaction expected. We have the reputation for being the best, as alot of blogs have stated the visited due to reputation, this wasnt built on emply foundations ! A bit of a ramble i know ! but truly gutted at the above statements, I will be contacting HO to read and review and deal with any salons in the appropiate manner.

In response to:Toni + Guy = Worst Hairdressing Experience Ever?

They still couldn't follow simple instructions from the other people- AND RUINED THEIR WEDDING DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In response to:The London Pass

I'm just trying to decide if buying the London Pass is the way to go, so I found the above comments very useful. I was nervous at first, as she speaks very little English, but all i had to do was show her a picture of the hairstyle i have, and only trimmed and tidied a bit, but her cutting was immaculate! perfect! i was so impressed with this Polish stylist. She was polite, professional and courteous. (oh- and CHEAP TOO).Just imagine- a perfect haircut in England from someone who speaks very little English! and these T&G bints who cannot understand simple instructions!

In response to:Toni + Guy = Worst Hairdressing Experience Ever?

I agree. I have never been in tears over a haircut before but after a botched colour job at T&G in Loughton, I have vowed never to visit those incompentent idiots again. There was only 2 people in there & 3 workers but they couldn't have paid me any less attention. One young girl whinied nasally all afternoon 'it's sunny, I wanna go home!!!' The hair stylist tore at my hair with a comb then had the cheek to suggest I had a sensitive scalp as I whinced. He cut my hair straighter than I've had it since school (not what I asked for) then constantly moaned & tutted at me for moving my head! Worst of all I brought several pictures of blonde women in & ended up with tiny bits of blonde with red ( exactly what I said I didn't want) . I said I wasn't happy with it at which point everyone disappeared leaving the teenager to charge me. I'd complain but they'd only offer me a free haircut! NEVER again

In response to:The London Pass

Like you said, the best stuff is free anyways.

We went with the kids, and, well, there just isn't time to catch all these exhibits in order to save that much. Okay if you're a couple single guys and are going to do 3 or 4 things per day, then I'd definitely agree its worth it.

Instead we decided just to use the travel cards, and return the passes (we bought the insurance).

It was more relaxing and we could spend more time enjoying the sights instead of scurrying around on some kind of hectic itinerary.

My advice (to anyone happening accross this blog): take a real hard look at the type of person you are, and the kind of visit you want. There are PLENTY of things to see in London without having to spend any money AT ALL. To add to the list of free stuff, there's the Lady Di Memorial park (for kids aged 0 to 10 I'd guess), Harrods (famous shopping mall), and visiting Trafalgar and Picadilly Squares, South shore has loads of entertainers/mimes all over the street, and then of course you can just take the cool double-decker busses all over the city and chat with Londoners.

In response to:Toni + Guy = Worst Hairdressing Experience Ever?

Kathy - thanks for your kind words. My daughter left Toni and Guy and is now doing a work experience course before returning to college in September to study childcare. Her experience at T@G has put her off haridressing for life.

Our local branch of connexions (careers office) have taken statements from the 3 apprentices who left at the same time and they are refusing to put people forward for T@G apprenticeships any more and have also written to their head office.

I hope that your friend is ok now and that she has left this abysmal excuse of a company.

In response to:Toni + Guy = Worst Hairdressing Experience Ever?

I went today, which is April 20, 2009 in Prague. I booked last week, saying I wanted both a hair cut and a hair dye.
I was told they would only have someone free to do both in a weeks time. I was like OK. They booked me for 6:30 PM. I went in, no one paied any attention till 6:45 when they rushed me upstairs and asked me what hair dye did I want. I said I wanted to go much lighter, that I used to be blonde for a long time (am not chesnut) and that I can pretty much safely go back to blonde unless they think otherwise. She told me it was TOO LATE to do a hair dye, that next time I shall explicitely book saying I want a hair dye job (like DUH!) and that if I like they can do a colour test to see if my hair could turn blonde and all ! (even though I assured them it safely can). So I had 4 streaks on my long hair bleached blond at the back of my head. After they checked they said that perhaps I shall have my haircut first to see whether I would still like to go blonde. I said: thats why I am here tonite, to have a haircut as well. They were like: yeah, but who did you book with, its too late tonite, theres no one who can cut your hair ! I said thank you politely and walked away with 4 random streaks at the back of my head and could not stop laughing all the way to the bank ! And did I forget to mention I am writing them a nasty complain letter ? :)
